biography (Education/professional experience/professional accomplishments)
Sylvanus Egwu Oko currently teaches English language and literature-related courses at the Department of English and Literary Studies, Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu-Alike, Ebonyi state, Nigeria. He obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in English language from Abia state university, Uturu, and a Master of Arts degree in literature in English from Ebonyi state university,Abakaliki. He is a Technical Coordinator for the university’s Language Enhancement Programme (LEP), and also a Facilitator for the university’s General Studies Programme in Use of English.
He is a professional editor with a huge experience to his credit. He is currently a member of the Critic-Editors of the university, and also an active member of the Committee for Creative Writing of the same Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu-Alike. This body is charged with the arduous task of receiving entries in the three genres of literature from the entire staff and student population of the university on a yearly basis, and subsequently screening them through blind review mechanisms to select the best entries which areeventually published in three separate anthologies namely; poetry, drama and prose.
His research interests range from masquerades, masks, masking, costuming/costumology and other related aspects of oral literature.
He is the Founder of the Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu-Alike, Scrabble Club, and the current Coach. |
