Reader (Associate Professor)


Friday Nwalo Nweke is a Reader (Associate Professor) of biotechnology in the Department of Biology/Microbiology/Biotechnology, Faculty of Science. He is a breeder of Nigerian sesame (Sesamum indicum L) (Nigerian cash crop of world-wide importance), with interest in developing improved varieties of sesame seeds with quality oil content and fatty acid profile.

He is the Director of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Services at Federal University, Ndufu-Alike Ikwo (FUNAI), Ebonyi State, Nigeria. He holds B.Sc. degree in Applied Biochemistry from Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT), Enugu; M.Sc degree in Applied Biochemistry from Nnamdi Azikiwe University (NAU), Awka; M.Sc. degree in Nutritional Biochemistry and Ph.D. degree in Biotechnology both from Ebonyi State University (EBSU), Abakaliki, Nigeria. He coordinates, teaches and supervises both undergraduate and Post graduate students of biotechnology. He has many articles published in reputable Journals.  He has served as Coordinator of SIWES, Head of Department and Chairman/Member of Department/ Faculty/ University Committees. He is a Member of African Plant Breeders’ Association (APBA); Biotechnology Society of Nigeria (BSN) and Nigerian Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (NSBMB).
