Smart E. Otu is a graduate of the University of Port Harcourt (B.Sc.), University of Ibadan (M.Sc.), D.Litt. & Phil. (Criminology), University of South Africa, D.Phil (Sociology) The University of the Western Cape, Cape Town. He is a fellow of West Africa Research Association (WARA); former intern of Drug Policy Research Centre, RAND Corporation Santa Monica, Ca. U.S.A. Dr. Otu had taught at the University of Western Cape Bellville Cape Town, Ebonyi State University Abakaliki Nigeria and currently, he is a senior lecturer teaching Criminology and Sociology at The Federal University, Ndufu-Alike, Abakaliki, Ebonyi State. His specialities are in the areas of Illegal drug trafficking and use, armed robbery, corruption, terrorism, punishment, victimology, criminology and sociology theories with emphasis on theory deconstruction and reconstruction among other things. He has published articles and book chapters in some of these areas. He is a member of the Nigerian Anthropology and Sociology Association (NASA), South African Anthropology and Sociology Association, American Society of Criminology and International Criminal Justice Association.
