biography (Education/professional experience/professional accomplishments)

prof theodora akachi ezeigbo obtained a bachelor of arts degree in english at university of lagos, nigeria in 1974 followed by a master’s degree in 1982 in the same institution. she thereafter obtained her phd at university of ibadan, nigeria in 1986.

Her teaching experience in university started in 1977 as a Graduate Assistant at University of Lagos, where she rose to the rank of senior lecturer in 1983 and became Professor in 1999. Between that period and when she left the institution in 2015 she taught many of the courses in the Department at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.  She has supervised over 160 final-year undergraduate projects between 1986 and 2015, and so far 8 projects at her current institution, Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu Alike, Nigeria.  Also at University of Lagos, she has supervised over 100 Master’s Degree theses between 1986 and 2015, while 12 PhD candidates successfully completed their dissertations  under her supervision too.

She is a prolific writer as could be seen in her collections of Critical texts, Short stories,  Essays, Poetries and papers published in reputable journals locally and internationally. Some of her works have won such awards as ANA/NDDC Flora Nwapa Prize for Women Writing (2003); first prize, Nationwide Short Story Competition (1994); Nigerian Prize for Literature (2007) won jointly with Mabel Segun; 2nd Prize, Christmas Short Story Competition by Nigerian Broadcasting Corporation (1975); and many more.

She has received various fellowships, awards, and chieftaincy titles in recognition of her contributions to scholarship and community development.

Prof Ezeigbo has held various administrative positions such as: Sub- Dean, Faculty of Arts, University of Lagos (1991/1992 and 1992/93); Acting Head, Department of English, University of Lagos (1997/98), Head Depart of English (2002 to 2005 and 2008 to 2009). She currently teaches in the Department of English and Literary Studies, Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu Alike, Nigeria.
