A 300-Level Geology student of FUNAI, Miss Chidinma Judith Agu has won the 2016 Offshore West Africa Student Paper (OWA SPA) at the Offshore West Africa Conference (OWA) held at the Eko Hotel, Lagos.

Miss Agu beat 93 other contestants drawn from 47 Universities in Nigeria and Ghana in the one-page abstract competition on a theme of the conference. Her topic was “Are the oil wells enough for the future: Emerging opportunities in unconventional oil reserves”.

In a memo to the Vice Chancellor conveying the feat of Miss Agu, the Head of Department of Physics/Geology/Geophysics, Professor F.X.O. Ugodulunwa, stated that “Miss Chidinma Judith Agu earned the 1st prize of the Offshore West Africa Student paper (OWA SPA) for undergraduates students. She beat 93 other candidates from 47 Universities in Nigeria and Ghana. The competition was part of the Offshore West Africa Youth Empowerment Programme (OWAYEP)”.

Professor Ugodulunwa described the “feat as another testimony to the standard set by FUNAI and it behoves us to soar with the FUNAI flag”.

In an interview with FUNAI Outlook magazine, Miss Agu attributed her success to the high standard set by the Vice chancellor of FUNAI and maintained by both staff and students and thanked FUNAI for the exposure.

Miss Agu who plans to further her studies in Engeering Geology and work in the oil and gass industry, said she had been admitted as a member of the Energy Institute with one year free subscription.

She was optimistic of performing excellently well in her degree examination as her Cumulative Grade Point Average has exceeded 4.5.Tochukwu C Ikexx

Also, another student from FUNAI who took part in the contest, Master Tochukwu Charles Ike, said he had been exposed by the conference, adding that he had participated in an earlier debating conference.

Master Ike thanked his lecturers for the exposure they are getting especially in power point presentation which gave them advantage over students from other universities in presentations.
