AE-FUNAI VC SETS UP TASKFORCE FOR CAMPUS-GREEN INITIATIVE
In order to accelerate the spate of tree planting under the Campus-green Initiative of the Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu-Alike, Ebonyi State, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Chinedum Nwajiuba has set up a taskforce charged with the responsibility of ensuring an aggressive tree planting scheme in the university.
Speaking after an on-the-spot assessment of the impact of the Initiative so far, the Vice-Chancellor reiterated his determination of making the university the most green-campus in Nigeria.
“I have the dream of making this university the most green-campus in Nigeria”, urging members of the taskforce to think-out-of-the-box to make the dream a reality.
Towards achieving the dream, the Vice-Chancellor divided the university into four sectors. He also appointed two members of the taskforce to manage each of the sectors.
They are as follows:
- University Main gate to the Administrative block – Mrs. Ijeoma Kalu and Peter Oka
- Convocation Arena to the Female Hostel – Mr. Ebere Nwiwuanyanwu and Mr. Emmanuel Akuruma
- Vegas to the take-off gate – Mr. Anthony Nwigboji and Mr. Emeka Benedict Odo
- Faculties of Science, Education, Agriculture and College of Medicine to the new auditorium – Mr. Abiola Ogunsanya and Mrs, Nnena Ugwuocha.
The Vice-Chancellor further appointed Mrs. Kalu to coordinate both the internal and external tree and monetary donations meant for the campus-green initiative while Mr. Ogunsanya was to take inventory and custody of all donated trees and the ones to be donated in future.
Charging members of the taskforce to take the assignment seriously, the Vice-chancellor directed that henceforth fruit tress such as oil bean (ugba), cashew, guava, mango, cocoa and citrus plants of all kinds are to be planted at designated places. They are also to ensure the intensive care and management of the trees even as the university would provide all the necessary supports to ensure that their assignment was hitch-free.
