
AS WORK RESUMES FOR THE NEW YEAR, VC TASKS STAFF ON COMMITMENT
After the New Year holidays, staff of the Federal University Ndufu-Alike Ikwo (FUNAI), Ebonyi state resumed duty in their numbers for the continuation of the 2016/2017 academic session on Tuesday, 3rd January, 2017.

Being the first day at work in 2017, staff were seen dusting their tables and cleaning their offices, exchanging pleasantries with colleagues as well as rendering prayers of thanksgiving and dedication to God in preparation for the tasks ahead in the new year.
At the end of the initial exchange of New Year wishes, they were down to the business of the day as they retired to their different offices, performing their statutory responsibilities as expected of them by the University Management.

Meanwhile the Vice Chancellor of the University in his New Year message to staff and students wished them a happy new year, noting that the holidays had given everyone the opportunity to rest and be invigorated for the continuation of the first semester of the 2016/2017 academic session.
He added: “This year will be a busy and rewarding one. Several programmes will be visited by the NUC and many exciting events will happen
“In all these God will manifest His glory and reward you for your commitment”
The Vice Chancellor also used the opportunity to enjoin staff and students to breast up for the tasks ahead by ensuring they were committed to their duties and studies in order to take the University to greater height.
Moving round different offices staff were seen seated and carrying out their duties, promising to ensure that they contribute meaningfully to the achievement of University’s vision.

Speaking in that regard, the Head SERVICOM Unit, Ms Nneka Ifeobu stated that in 2017, the Unit would vigorously sensitize staff and students on the need to imbibe and adhere to the philosophy of SERVICOM which is the promotion of efficient and timely service delivery in the University, advising staff who were yet to resume for the year to have a change of attitude.

In his own submission, the Chairman of Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), FUNAI Chapter, Comrade Emmanuel Chigbata enjoined staff to put in their best this year by coming to work regularly and on time, promising to ensure that their rights were protected at all times if they shun truancy, absenteeism and other unethical work behaviours.

Lending support to the call for hard work and commitment, the Head of Payroll Unit, Bursary department, Mrs. Clementina Uzoije vowed to ensure that her Unit delivers on their mandate for the year, adding that 2017 would be a great year for everyone. She further admonished staff to be above board in performing their responsibilities.

Speaking in this same vein, Mr. Kenneth Onwe of the Treasury Unit, Bursary department stated that they were already carrying out their responsibilities, noting that they were committed to the efficient and timely delivery of their job schedules in order to promote the culture of excellence which the University is known for.

On her part, the Head of Legal and General Administration Unit, Barr. (Mrs.) Ogochukwu Onuorah appreciated God for the gift of the New Year, noting that they have resumed work in earnest in order to achieve the targets and milestones for the year and further advised Management to continue in the culture of rewarding excellence in order to motivate all staff to put in their best at all times.

Some other members of staff such as Mrs. Afoma Ifemene and Mr. Nor Edward of the Exams and Records Unit; Mrs. Felicia Ewah, Mr. Olabode Oyeniyi and Mr. Okechukwu Nwachi all of the Junior Staff Matters were upbeat and fully charged to perform their duties in the New Year.
On the whole a good numbers of staff resumed for work very early both at the take-off and permanent sites of the University, all well prepared to contribute their quota to the achievement of the goals and objectives of the University in 2017.
