FUNAI STUDENT WINS MISS EBONYI BEAUTY PAGEANT

A student of Mass Communication at the Federal University Ndufu-Alike Ikwo (FUNAI), Ebonyi State, Miss Gloria Ukpai has won the 2016/2017 Ebonyi beauty pageant competition.

The delectable Gloria dusted 13 other beauties in a keenly contested pageantry held at the State capital, Abakaliki.

Presenting her crown to the Deputy Vice Chancellor of the University,              Prof. Sunday Elom, yesterday, the new queen extolled the University Management for providing a stimulating environment that enables students not only to excel academically but also ensures that they discover and pursue their talents.

The beauty queen stated that her decision to present her crown to the University authorities was to inform them that the solid foundations being laid in the institution were already bearing fruits, adding that students of the University have the capacity to compete favourably with their peers anywhere in the world because of the quality of training they are been exposed to.

She further pleaded with the University Management to support her pet project which is geared towards providing relevant skills to Ebonyi youths in other to make them self-reliant in a contracted economy.

Receiving Miss Ebonyi to his office, the Deputy Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Elom commended her for making FUNAI proud; advising her to remain focused in her studies and to continue to be a good ambassador of the University in all her endeavours.

The Deputy Vice Chancellor further charged her to use her reign to attract governmental, Non-Governmental Organizations and other private individuals to partner the University in the area of skills acquisition.

Earlier, the Dean of Students Affairs, Dr. Charles Okolie who led Miss Ebonyi on the courtesy call to the Deputy Vice Chancellor explained that the University was interested in turning out graduates that have the capacity to meet the demands of the 21st century, adding that students would be exposed to different kinds of skill acquisition programmes before their graduation.

By the virtue of her win, Miss Ukpai would be representing Ebonyi State in the 2017 Miss Nigeria Beauty Pageant.
