The Federal University Ndufu Alike Ikwo, (FUNAI), says it will partner with the Raw Materials Research and Development Council, (RMRDC), to promote local raw materials development, processing and utilization through research.

The Vice Chancellor, Professor Chinedum Nwajiuba, dropped the hint, Wednesday, April 20, 2016, when he received in audience the Ebonyi State Coordinator of the Council, Mr. Eze C. Udu, in his office at Ikwo.

Professor Nwajiuba described RMRDC as a serious-minded organisation as demonstrated by its packaging of its four-year strategic plan, which he noted, focused mostly on research.

He said that the Faculties of Sciences, and Engineering and Technology as well as other relevant centres in the institution would collaborate with the Council in some of its 13 strategic areas of research, stressing that as a result of the low industrial nature of Ebonyi State, researches would be tailored to the critical areas, especially in the fields of agriculture and mining.

The FUNAI helmsman told the Coordinator that as a new university, FUNAI had decided to depart from the status quo ante in carrying out research, stressing that it was compulsory for researchers in the institution to henceforth produce and present briefs to stakeholders identified as beneficiaries in any research conducted or sponsored by the university.

Briefing the Vice Chancellor earlier, the State Coordinator, Mr. Udu, felicitated with him on his new appointment and expressed the desire of the Council to work closely with the young university.

Mr. Udu stated that as a parastatal under the Federal Ministry of Science and Technology, the Council has offices in the 36 states and Abuja, adding that its major mandate is to harness the abundant mineral resources of the nation through research.

He said that the Council had developed 13 strategic projects areas for research and development for the next four years and expressed the desire of RMRDC to collaborate and partner with FUNAI in the areas of fabrication, commercialising of completed and on-going researches, and provision of technical support, training, consultancy services and entrepreneurial development.

Present at the occasion were the Registrar, Mr. G. O. Chukwu, the Bursar, Alhaji Rafiu Aliu, the University Librarian, Dr. O. O. Adediji who also represented the Ag Director of Entrepreneurial and Employability centre, Dr. Afam Icha-Ituma, Deans of Faculties of Sciences, and Engineering and Technology, Professors Michael Onuu and Matthew Edoga.
