REA PRE-COMMISSIONING TEAM ARRIVES AE-FUNAI

  • Certifies level of preparedness for the commissioning

Vice-Chancellor, Federal University, Ndufu-Alike (AE-FUNAI), Prof. Chinedum Nwajiuba, yesterday, received delegation from Rural Electrification Agency (REA), Abuja, whose mission was to ascertain level of preparedness for the commissioning of the 1 mega watt hybrid plant installed by the Federal Government of Nigeria in the institution.

Receiving the delegation at the Vice-Chancellor’s Conference room, Prof. Nwajiuba expressed deep satisfaction for the Presidency’s gesture to AE-FUNAI towards forestalling poor electricity supply in the university. “We are very very grateful. I wish the Presidency will continue to provide support to us.  We have to modernize our facilities”, he said.

Prof. Nwajiuba called on the Presidency to intervene in the high level of  infrastructural decay in the new university  and restructure the old buildings as solution  to the situation pointing out emphatically that “there are abandoned, poorly built, collapsed and collapsing buildings that need urgent intervention”.

The Vice-Chancellor said that our country should emulate advanced countries in the area of infrastructural development, character and manner, adding that many Nigerians lack these qualities resulting in shoddy deals and poor attitude that have become the order of our time.

Abubakar Ahmed, Deputy Director and leader of the delegation, noted that they were here for supervision of the work done and to have first-hand knowledge of realities on ground, to ensure the visit of Mr. President to commission the plant would be successful.  To achieve effective collaboration in proper planning and execution of the commissioning, the leader of delegation requested the Vice- Chancellor to nominate few staff of the university to be part of the event planning. VC selected 3 of the key officers including Director and Deputy Director, Physical Planning, Works and Services, and Coordinator, Vice-Chancellor’s Office for this purpose.
