Head of Department’s Welcome
I welcome you to the Department of Arts and Humanities Education, Faculty of Education, Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu-Alike (AE-FUNA), Ebonyi State, Nigeria. The Department is one of the inaugural four Departments created with the Department of Vocational and Technical Education, Department of Science Education and Department of Educational Foundations at the inception of the University’s Faculty of Education in 2016 by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Chinedum U. Nwajiuba. The Department was approved by the Vice Chancellor to offer BA (Ed) English and Literary Studies Education programme in 2016/2017 academic session.
Dr. Beatrice A. Achilike was appointed as the pioneer Acting Head of the Department in November, 2016. When Dr. Achilike left at the end of her Sabbatical Leave in February 2017, Dr. Chika Uchendu took care of the Department till April, 2017 when Dr. Angela Eze assumed duty as a pioneer core lecturer in the Department when the (then) Faculty Dean, Dr Afam Icha-Ituma asked her to take over the affairs of the Department. She held on the duty till the 1st September, 2017 when the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Chinedum Nwajiuba, officially appointed her the Acting Head of the Department.
In September 2018 when Dr. Angela completed her tenure, Dr Ntasiobi C.N. Igu was appointed to take over the position of the Acting Head of the Department, a position she currently holds. The Department started with eighteen students, and is growing rapidly in all levels of academic development through teaching and research. Today, we have about one hundred and forty students, and our pioneer students are in their 4th year for the 2019/2020 academic session.
