The Department of Chemistry/Biochemistry/Molecular biology is one of the pioneer/ pace setting Departments in the Faculty of Science and Technology of the Federal University, Ndufu Alike Ikwo (FUNAI) in Ebonyi State of Nigeria. The Department is composed of competent professionals from different fields. The Department has total staff strength of thirteen nine (Sabbatical, Senior Lecturers, Lecturer, Assistant Lecturers, Graduates Assistants, Technologists, Admin Officer, Clerical Officer and Laboratory Assistants).
The academic programme of the Department is sound, rich and wide in scope. The philosophy of the programme is anchored on global industrial best practices with a view to equipping a generation of employable graduates, with practical scientific expertise required for individual dependence, community survival, institutional, corporate, national and international relevance.
Some of the objectives of the programme include: contributing to the nurturing of informed and responsive citizenry, giving students a thorough appreciation of basic and fundamental scientific concept for nation-building and developing student’s with practical ability to survive in a challenging labour market particularly in Nigeria and the world at large.
Candidates seeking admission into the Department must possess a minimum of 5 credits including English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics and Biology as core subjects and at least one other science subject in SSCE/NECO or their equivalent for the four year programme and two passes at GCE advanced level in subjects (Biology, Botany, Chemistry, Geography, Mathematics and Physics) others include: A good NCE or OND with upper credit may be admitted into 200levels for 3years programme and HND upper credit into 300 levels for 2years programme.
