biography (Education/professional experience/professional accomplishments)
Professor Godwin Ogheneruemu Irivwieri is a Professor of Graphic Design and Art History in the Department of Fine and Applied Arts, Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu-Alike, Ebonyi State Nigeria. Irivwieri had his secondary education at Orogun Grammar School, Orogun(1969-1973) and Government College, Ughelli(1975-1978) where he obtained WASC/GCE O/L and HSC/GCE A/L respectively. He further gained admission into the University of Benin, Benin City for the undergraduate programme(1982-1986) and awarded a Federal Government postgraduate Scholarship at the University of Benin, Benin City (1989-1991) where he obtained a B.Ed (Honours) Fine and Applied Arts, Second class (Honours) Upper Division in 1986 and an MFA degree in Graphics in 1991 respectively. He continued his academic pursuit at the postgraduate school, Delta State University, Abraka and graduated with a Phd degree in Art History in 2005. Professor Godwin Ogheneruemu Irivwieri joined the services of the Delta State University, Abraka in January 1993 as Lecturer 11 in the Department of Fine and Applied Arts and rose through the ranks to the position of Associate Professor in 2013. In December 2018, he was appointed Professor in the Department of Fine and Applied Arts at the Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu-Alike, in Ebonyi State, Nigeria. His area of interest are in Graphics and Advertising Design, Art History, Art Education, Art Historical studies,Visual art theory and Contemporary Nigerian Art. He has taught over one hundred and fifty courses at both the undergraduate and Graduate levels. In the same vein, he has supervised over seventy undergraduate projects, dissertations and Thesis comprising 55 BA (Hons) degrees, 11 MA/MFA degree and 6 PhD degrees. Also, in his Scholarly duties, he has been assessor and external moderator, for final year students and promotion of staff, Auchi Polytechnic Auchi, Edo State and College of Education, Agbor in Delta State. An Author/editor of several books/journal in his field and also widely published both nationally and internationally. Some of his works are on special request in the permanent collections of Warren M. Robbins Library at the National Museum of African Art, Smithsonian Institution MRC708, Washington DC, 20013-7012, USA, Australia Trove, National Library of Australia, Amazon. co.uk; Open J-Gate world’s biggest Access Journals, informatics (1) Ltd, India; Book Finder. Com among others. As a humanist and resourceful scholar, Prof Irivwieri has also collaborated with many other scholars in his research. As a scholar-artist, he has designed many emblems and brochures for both individuals and corporate organizations. Such designs include Magazine Covers, Crest, Badges, Broach, Car stickers and even calligraphic writing of certificates for educational establishment. He is also listed in Achiever’s “Who is Who” in Nigeria, published by Achiever’s Communications Limited. He has equally been a member of the Delta State council of Arts and Culture, Asaba. While in Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu-Alike, he has served in several committees ranging from Faculty of Humanities Management committee, Appraisal committee, Verification of Examination score committee, Investigative committee, Head of Department, Fine and Applied Arts and member of Senate of the University.
