During the event, Prof. Ejiaga  remarked that “Today the faculty is not just talking, we are doing “, and that it was with pleasure that the faculty had gathered that morning for tree planting, encouraging all present to  support the university’s Campus Green Initiative. “ In short what we are doing today is in support of his (Vice-Chancellor) Campus Green Initiative”.  He thanked the VC, Prof. Nwajiuba for his commitment and provision of quality leadership and the Coordinator of Campus Green Initiative Mr. Ifeanyi Chukwu and his team for providing the trees and support services that made the day’s event successful.

In Prof. Ejiaga’s words;

Our goal is to plant 100 trees today. Each staff will plant at least one tree.

You will have to own it. Each time you are on campus, stop by your tree,

take a look and make sure  it is growing. We will assist you in the next

6 months to feed  and water your plants. Again when you plant it,

you own it;  You may write your name against your plant.

These trees we are planting today, will be here many years after we no longer

(Will be around. But there is one thing in trees that I find particularly important:

it is how they are symbol of dignity. It is not by chance that trees die standing.

And so let us, with this symbolic gesture of today, remind ourselves that we

need to do everything we can, not only for a healthy University environment

but(also) for human dignity toS be safeguarded on a healthy faculty grounds.
