AE-FUNAI PROCHANCELLOR PASSES ON, AGED 87

The Prochancellor/Chairman, Governing Council of Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu-Alike, Ebonyi State, Professor Mba Uzoukwu is dead.

His demise was announced by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Chinedum Nwajiuba during an enlarged Management meeting held yesterday at the Senate Chamber of the university. Reading from the letter of notification from the family of the late Prochancellor signed by his first son, Mr. Onyechere Mba-Uzoukwu, the vice-chancellor noted that he died on Wednesday, 30th May, 2018 after a brief illness.

Eulogizing the deceased Chairman, the Vice-chancellor said he was a thorough-bred academic, adding that the university was lucky to have had him as its prochancellor and chairman of governing council.

“He was a thorough-bred academic. There was nothing to educate him about. He knew it. He understood it. And he acted it. He was committed to seeing that this university lives its motto of excellence and integrity”, the Vice-Chancellor stated.

The Vice-Chancellor maintained that the late Uzoukwu was an accomplished man in all standards, stressing that he understood the divine assignment God had given them to do in the university.  He further expressed his sadness on his death, saying that the late Uzoukwu was supposed to have seen him through the tasks of repositioning the university.

Meanwhile the Vice-Chancellor has led other Principal Officers and internal members of the governing council on a condolence visit to the families of the late erudite professor.

Speaking on behalf of Council, the Director of Health Services, Dr. Henry Aloh expressed their shock on the sudden demise of the prochancellor, noting that the consolation they had was that he left remarkable imprints in the university and on the lives of members.

Assuring the family of the continued support of the university, he said: “We have come to reassure the family on the continued support of the university”, adding that they also share in their grief.

Responding on behalf of the family, Mr. Onyechere Mba-Uzoukwu noted that the death of his father was both a happy and sad one. Happy that he lived a fulfilled and proud life, raising and setting worthy standards for all his children, adding that he had a great drive for excellence. They are however sad because he died without fulfilling his dream of seeing the university become the best in the country, and urged the Vice-Chancellor and other members of Council to ensure they carry it through, as that would make his father happy.

The late Uzoukwu was appointed the 2nd prochancellor/chairman of governing council of Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu-Alike, Ebonyi State in March 2016.
