
Call for papers:A festschrift in Honour of Monsignor (Professor) Christopher Ifeanyichukwu Ejizu
Dear Colleagues, friends and Students of Prof Christopher I. Ejizu,
Monsignor (Professor) Christopher ifeanyichukwu Ejizu, an outstanding International Scholar, is retiring from the University of Port Harcourt, his base for well over three decades. Ejizu is one of the foremost and original thinkers of the nature and character of contemporary African religious map, an accomplished teacher whose numerous essays in Nigerian and foreign literatures have both depth and clarity of a true scholar. Chris Ejizu is one of the pioneer founders of the prestigious Department of Religious and Cultural Studies, University of Port Harcourt and a shining light whose propagation of critical excellence at the University is as influential as it is enviable.
As part of the events to mark the retirement celebrations of this academic doyen, Monsignor (Prof.) Christopher Ejizu, in August 2017, we are preparing festschrift which will address and evaluate the state of disciplines he has not only contributed to but shaped in Religious and Cultural Studies in the University of Port Harcourt and beyond.
The organizing committee welcomes contributions in any area of Prof. Ejizu’s published research interest relating to Religous and Cultural Studies in General, Rituals and Symbolism, Religous Ethics, Theories and Methods in Religous Studies.
Topics may include but not limited to:
- Personal narratives
- Reprints of Prof. Ejizu’s earliest work.
- Joyful paeans to Prof. Ejizu.
- Environmental Ethics.
- African Theology and Christian Identity.
- Challenges and Prospects of Religious Studies.

- Ecumenical Movements.
- Religion and the Arts.
- Religious History.
- Oral Sources.
- Inter-Religious Dialogue.
- Religion and Urban Development.
- Religion, Peace and Conflict Management.
- Indigenous Religious Rituals.
- Indigenous Religious symbols and Iconography.
All manuscripts should be prepared in accordance to the APA guidelines and should be submitted via e-mail to festscriftonejizu2017gmail.com. Please note that the manuscript will go through normal blind peer review procedures. Important dates for manuscript submission:
- Abstract submission deadline: February 14, 2017
- Paper submission deadline: April, 30th, 2017
- Publication deadline June 14, 2017
