FUNAI HOLDS NATIONAL SUMMIT ON AGRICULTURE

The Nigerian economy is presently facing serious economic shock, occasioned by the depletion of the price of crude oil in the international market (the mainstay of the Nigerian economy), leaving the nation on the verge of economic collapse with its attendant rise in unemployment figures, job losses, and drastic reduction in government revenue profile as well as poverty for the citizens.

However, in order to stem this ugly tide and reposition the Nigerian economy to become resilient and productive through massive investment in Agriculture; the Federal University Ndufu Alike Ikwo (FUNAI), Ebonyi State is hosting a 2-day National Agriculture Summit on November 29th to 30th, 2016.

With the theme “The New Face of Agriculture in a Declining Oil Based Economy”, the summit is expected to catalyze the process of improving sustainability and economic viability of farming. It will suggest ways to accelerate economic growth, fix the inefficiencies, support farmers and boost interest in agriculture.

The Keynote address would be delivered by the Chairman Senate Committee on Agriculture and Rural Development, Senator Abdullahi Adamu while the Honourable Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Chief Audu Ogbe will be the guest speaker in the event. The Governor of Ebonyi State, Engr. Chief David Nweze Umahi and the Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Chinedum Nwajiuba will be the Guest of Honour and Chief Host respectively.
