FUNAI INAUGURATES PARENTS FORUM
- AS VC TASKS STUDENTS ON PERFORMANCE, CHARACTER…
In a manner unprecedented in the history of many public Nigerian Universities, the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University Ndufu-Alike Ikwo (FUNAI), Ebonyi State on Thursday, 1st December, 2016 met with parents and guardians of students of the University. The event which took place at the University auditorium was the first of its kind in the history of the University, and was geared towards building bridges of friendship and collaboration between the University and one of its very important publics.
Briefing the parents on the rationale for the meeting, the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Chinedum Nwajiuba noted that parents are an integral and important stakeholder of the University, adding that the meeting was an avenue to brief them about the academic performance and behavior of their wards, enlighten them about activities of the University as well as inform them about issues affecting the institution. The Vice Chancellor further averred that the Forum was an opportunity for parents to make their contribution towards the intellectual and moral development of their wards and infrastructural development of the University, stressing that as important stakeholders they should join hands in helping the University to achieve its vision of producing graduates with the necessary capacity and character.

Unveiling the secret of academic success, Prof. Nwajiuba cautioned students against campus side attractions like immorality, phone and fashion frenzies and other forms of youthful exuberance, advising them to rather focus on their academics in order to secure their future. The Vice Chancellor charged them to be serious-minded early in their academic life if they really want to come out with good grades. “If you make good results in year one your possibility of making a First Class honours will be high. If you realize this early you will end well”, he stated.
The parents who were visibly overwhelmed by the simple disposition of the Vice Chancellor, pledged to work with the University Management in taking the institution to greater heights. While calling on Prof. Nwajiuba not to rest on his oars in his passionate drive to make the University great, the parents used the platform to invite others who were not at the meeting to join them in contributing their quota towards developing the University.
The highlight of the meeting was the inauguration of the ‘FUNAI-Parents Forum’, an umbrella body made up of parents and guardians of students of the University. The Forum resolved to be meeting twice in an academic year and enjoined all parents and guardians who have their wards in the University to be part of the association. The following parents were elected to stir the ship of the Forum:
- Samuel Igwe – Chairman
- Ekpa Joseph Ekpa – Vice Chairman
