FUNAI INAUGURATES PROCUREMENT PLANNING COMMITTEE

In accordance with the Public Procurement Act 2007, the Vice Chancellor of Federal University Ndufu-Alike Ikwo (FUNAI), Ebonyi State, Prof. Chinedum Nwajiuba yesterday inaugurated the University’s Procurement Planning Committee.

Speaking during the event held at the Senate Chamber, Prof. Nwajiuba vowed to ensure that the University abides by the Procurement Act in other to promote cost effectiveness, transparency and accountability in all its procurement activities.

He further charged members of the Committee to always ensure the prompt preparation of the University’s Annual Procurement Plan to prevent it from encountering financial hitches in the implementation of its activities.

The Committee which is chaired by the Vice Chancellor has the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Registrar and University Librarian as members. Other members of the Committee includes the representatives of the Bursary department, Planning Unit, Deans and Directors that are directly in requirement of procurement, Legal and Procurement Units.

The FUNAI Procurement Planning Committee has the responsibilities of preparing needs assessment and evaluation, identifying the goods, works and services required and carrying appropriate market and statistical surveys; on that basis preparing analysis of the cost implications of the proposed procurement. They are also charged with aggregating its requirements whenever possible, both within the procurement entity and between entities, to obtain economy of scale and reduce procurement cost, integrating its procurement expenditure in its yearly budget and prescribing any method for effecting the procurement subject to the necessary approval under the Public Procurement Act 2007.
