FUNAI VC COMMISSIONS FACULTY OF ENGINEERING WORKSHOP
In order to ensure that students of Faculty of Engineering and Technology are equipped with the relevant hands-on skills and technical knowledge in their various disciplines, the Federal University Ndufu-Alike Ikwo (FUNAI), embarked on the construction of an Engineering workshop to serve as grooming ground for them.
The workshop which is the first of its kind in the history of the University was on Friday, 10th February, 2017 commissioned by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Chinedum Nwajiuba amidst jubilations by staff and students of the Faculty who were taken aback on the speed at which the workshop was started and completed despite the ongoing economic challenges confronting the nation.

The workshop which its construction started on 25th November, 2016 was completed and inaugurated on 10th February, 2017, less than one year. The workshop thus, would help in ensuring that programmes under the Faculty are accredited by the National Universities Commission.
Commissioning the workshop, Prof. Nwajiuba thanked the contractor and Directorate of Physical Planning, Works and Services for not only delivering the project before the scheduled time but more importantly, for delivering a quality job despite the variation and fluctuation in prices of construction materials from the time the workshop was started and when it was completed. The Vice Chancellor noted the nation is in a desperate situation and advised staff to change their mindset in order to move the University forward. Bemoaning the situation where most people were only interested in taking value instead of giving value, the Vice Chancellor stressed the importance ‘giving’ in the drive for a better Nigerian society.

In his speech, Dean, Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Prof. Mathew Edeoga appreciated the commitment of the Vice Chancellor towards the development of the University and training of students to meet the demands of 21st century economy especially those offering Engineering courses, noting that the workshop would be deployed to equip the students with practical skills to make them compete favourably with their peers in other parts of the world.
Earlier, the Catholic Bishop of Abakaliki Diocese, His Lordship, Rt. Rev. Dr. Michael Okoro had dedicated the workshop to God, praying that through it, great minds and great ideas that would improve the lives of people be developed. The Catholic Bishop who was represented by one of the Priest Personnel Officers in the diocese, Rev. Fr. Dr. Edward Inya-Nwachi noted that practical knowledge of courses like Engineering was important for the development of the country, and admonished the lecturers to ensure the workshop was used for the benefits of students.
