I Run an Open System- FUNAI VC
The Vice Chancellor of the Federal University Ndufu-Alike (FUNAI), Ebonyi State, Prof. Chinedum Nwajiuba has stated that since his assumption of duty in the institution that he has been running an open system of administration.
The Professor of Agricultural Economics hinted this when the National Executive of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), Eastern zone led by the National Vice President, Dr. Leku Ador paid him a courtesy call in his office. The labour leader and his team were in the University for the Inauguration of the FUNAI Branch of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities.
The Vice Chancellor stressed the importance of teamwork and collaborative effort in achieving and sustaining organizational success, noting that the only way to possess the secret of joy was by impacting the lives of people positively, no matter how small the favour may be.
“We put all things on the table and allow everybody to have a say. We initiated the expanded Management Meeting in order to get broader perspectives to issues”, he said.
Prof. Nwajiuba further noted that though Vice Chancellors have enormous power at their disposal, yet the power should be wielded with lots of caution and discretion in order to ensure fairness and industrial harmony in Universities.
He said: “Vice Chancellors have lots of power but all those that have maximized such powers ran into trouble. So we need to be careful.”
Asserting that man is a social being, the Vice Chancellor said the only way for an individual to experience real joy in life was by touching people’s lives positively, and added that he was in University administration to serve posterity and contribute to the development of humanity.
