Speaking at the event, the Chairman of the FUNAI Cooperative and Thrift Society, Dr. Onuorah B. Nweke noted that the idea of having a cooperative shop in the University was inspired by the hardship most staff faced during the June 2017 salary imbroglio, adding that if such situation arises in future, members of the cooperative were expected to walk into the shop and access food stuff and other life sustaining materials on credit.

He further thanked the University Management for their support and cooperation which he stressed was the impetus for embarking on the project, adding that the allocation of a portion of the University land for the project was very commendable.

In a brief ceremony to mark the commencement of construction works on the site, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Nwajiuba noted that at assumption of duty, the idea of building a shopping mall was the first thing he championed because of its benefits to members of the University community, and appreciated the FUNAI Staff Cooperative for buying into the vision.

The Vice Chancellor also maintained that in one year and six months of his administration, the University was making progress though it might not yet be explicitly noticeable, and thanked all those that are contributing to the developmental strides in the institution.

“This University will continue to get better and we appreciate all those that have keyed into the vision of contributing to its growth and development”, he stated.
