Vice Chancellor’s Address

Vice Chancellor's Address

Federal University Ndufu-Alike Ikwo is a modern University established in 2011 and located in the serene agricultural environment of Ikwo in Ebonyi State, South East Geopolitical zone of Nigeria. Fondly called FUNAI, our University prides itself as the Home of Soaring Eagles, after our totem bird, the eagle, whose soaring image is prominent on the University logo.

We aspire to be a world-class University recognized for the delivery of intellectually rigorous, cutting edge research and excellent teaching/learning experience, geared towards the production of graduates with relevant hands-on, sellable and employability skills who will soar in their chosen careers. To this end, the University’s 7 Faculties offer high quality academic programmes that meet national and international academic best practices and the demands of the 21st century economy. The faculties are:

  • Basic Medical Sciences,
  • Sciences,
  • Humanities,
  • Engineering and Technology,
  • Management and Social Sciences,
  • Education, and
  • Agriculture

Excellence, Integrity and Entrepreneurship Development are at the core of our academic philosophy and we integrate it in the delivery of our academic programs in order to produce highly knowledgeable, self-motivated and honest solution-providers that can excel in any sector of the globalized economy.

FUNAI is about boundless possibilities. Here, it is possible to change how you think. Our students who are identified as Great Soaring Eagles are availed of excellent learning opportunities informed by up-to-date research and facilitated by highly qualified and motivated workforce, with multi-media class rooms, well stocked modern library and well equipped laboratories for practical sessions in a serene learning environment.

FUNAI is more than an academic environment, it is a community where staff, students and other stakeholders constitute proud citizens. We are building not just a citadel of academic excellence, but a true community where it is possible to unlock the promise of a better future. Our students and staff, for instance, are actively involved in greening the environment by continuously planting and maintaining trees. They also organize many activities for themselves such as art exhibitions, poetry readings, prayer meetings, artistic displays, musical performances, theatrical shows, etc. Sports is also a fun way in which we enhance campus spirit. In addition, the University management and faculties partner with students to invite inspiring guest speakers to motivate, inform and educate our students, faculty and other stakeholders.

Part of our success secret is the residential system. Though seriously challenged by inadequate hostel space for students and on-campus accommodation for staff, the residential system still remains one of FUNAI’s pride. We shall continue to work within our means to build a true community where students and faculty actually live, learn, eat, work and socialize. Another success secret is the English language enhancement program introduced to make our students better communicators and users of the English language. Moreover, all our undergraduate students are bound to undergo entrepreneurship and employability preparations with a view to helping them do things in new ways and feel comfortable with breaking boundaries.

As the Vice-Chancellor, I lead a team of hardworking colleagues whose responsibility include helping staff and students to strengthen their determination and be steered through the maze of University life to finish strong at the end of the day. We are ever ready to help you reach your potential and fulfill your life dream.

On behalf of the Council, Senate, Management, staff and students of Federal University Ndufu-Alike Ikwo (FUNAI), I am most delighted to welcome you to the website of our great University. I welcome you to savor FUNAI’s great academic programs, its fantastic location, its serene environment and its array of exciting Campus events. Welcome to a thriving community of students and devoted staff.

God bless you.
